Principal Liang is not only an academic but a renowned Calligrapher in his own right and his work is keenly collected internationally.

Students from a diverse range of courses including HN Illustration, Graphics and New Media joined fellow students from Btec Foundation and National Diplomas amongst others to enjoy an enthusiastic and informative lecture and demonstration on the history and styles of Chinese Calligraphy. The live demonstration highlighted the years of dedication and practice to master the skills required to confidently and boldly create letter forms in the running style, literally within seconds and in one continuous movement. Neil Manning Programme Area Leader for Art and Design confirmed that 'Having visiting Artists and Designers increasingly visiting the studios for talks, demonstrations and tutorials is a major strength of the Creative Industries Hub, it not only inspires both staff and students but focuses students on the possibilities of successful self-employment as an Artist within the Visual Arts after college and our thanks go to Principal Liang for a thoroughly engaging and motivating Lecture'.

On 8th May, Tanzanian Wilfred Moshi set out as part of an expedition to climb Mount Everest. When he reaches the top he'll be launching the Global Vision Project, an initiative by the Twende Pamoja Trust, and branded by Edinburgh Telford Graphic Design student Jonathan Walton.

The Hand in Hand Global Vision Project has been developed within the secondary school partnerships over the last two years. More than 3000 young people in Scotland and Tanzania have contributed to create over 40 vision statements to promote the development of a better future between communities, schools and places of learning.

The current stage of this amazing project will be launched imminently by Wilfred from the top of Mount Everest, followed by further events from Arthur’s Seat in Edinburgh (June), and from Mount Kilimanjaro in August.

Jonathan's inspiration was "By placing their painted hands on posters and banners, get young people to publicly pledge to act together towards a vision for a better future"

For more information
http//www.facebook.com/MountEverestHandinHand
http//wilfredmoshi.wordpress.com/
http//www.facebook.com/MountEverestHandinHand/videos

I think it’s what motivates you as a coach and anything you can pass on for them to improve but also young players tend to be more of a sponge than certain older players, its good just being out here coaching.”

The Rugby Performance Course offered by Edinburgh Telford and the BASE course from Borders College offer viable pathways for young players looking to pursue a career in rugby “It’s key to give opportunities to players who want to improve their skills, who might not have got into a professional academy at 18-19 years old. Stuart Hogg is a great example of someone who was at BASE a couple of years ago and who, a year ago, got a professional contract and is now in the Scotland team. Courses at Edinburgh Telford and BASE allow people to not only improve themselves physically but also develop their skills and understanding of the game”

“As a small country it’s key to engage with projects like this to see the best players coming through and obviously if there are avenues open to them, like these programmes and the club game itself, we can provide opportunities then we’ll know who’s coming through and who will make it as a professional player”
Commenting on the forthcoming Southern Hemisphere tour “If Scotland take their opportunities then the boys know they are just one win away from a real momentum shift and being one of the best teams in the world.”

Last week, they won the Men’s Premier Cup in the Rugby 7s at the Scottish Rugby end-of-season spectacular which featured both 7s and XV-a-side teams.

Over 600 students from a variety of education providers took part in the event. Our team from Telford fought off tough competition from Stirling University, Edinburgh Accies and Edinburgh University to take home the top prize. The successful Telford team are all students on our Rugby performance course.

Robert Chrystie, leader of the Rugby Performance course said “I’m really proud of the team. They did brilliantly to fend off the competition from so many top class teams.

“At Telford we are committed to supporting the young Scottish rugby players of the future. There is currently a lack of opportunities for our talented youngsters to develop their game. This course is a great stepping -stone which gives students the chance to play rugby full-time for a year and to come out with a qualification too. This is definitely something very positive for Scottish rugby. We’re delighted with the team’s performance at this event which has been a great opportunity for those who want to compete seriously and push themselves to play at the next level.”

The competition took place on the back pitches of Murrayfield and the adjoining pitches of Roseburn Park.

The win comes shortly after ex-Scotland rugby captain Chris Paterson visited our rugby team, taking them through a pre-six nations style training session, as well as question and answer session.

This success also follows another significant win for Telford sports students. Last month, they were overall winners of the prestigious Scottish Colleges Sports Championships, on top of winning an impressive number of individual events.

The picture of the team is reproduced courtesy of Scottish Rugby/Press Association images.
