Edinburgh’s Telford College’s ZeroOne restaurant offers the finest dining experience in north Edinburgh’s up-and-coming Waterfront
Edinburgh’s Telford College is well established amongst the Edinburgh community for its wide range of courses and modern, purpose-built campus in north Edinburgh, but what is less well known is that the College boasts a unique, fine dining experience at extremely affordable prices.
Training the Michelin star chefs of tomorrow, the ZeroOne restaurant, located at the ground level of the College’s campus, is a fully functional restaurant with trainee chefs and hospitality students, from an array of levels, working together in preparing and presenting the highest standards of food and service.
Explaining more about the ZeroOne restaurant, Curriculum Manager of Food and Hospitality, Tom MacGregor said:
“We – the staff and the students - are extremely proud of ZeroOne and what we have achieved. Everyone works hard and takes great diligence in their craft to ensure our customers enjoy their experience of dining with us. All our food is freshly prepared on the premises with the freshest ingredients and we take great pride in the high quality standard of what we serve.
The Food and Hospitality course at Telford has developed a strong reputation within the city and even beyond, with many students travelling from across the globe to undertake the course for its invaluable training and internship opportunities, with many of its trainees gaining placements in a number of of Scotland’s top hotels and restaurants.
Each year, at the College’s graduation, it honours a hospitality graduate with the James Thomson Award – named after Telford Food and Hospitality Alumni, James Thomson OBE, owner of the prestigious Witchery by the Castle and Prestonfield Hotel.
This year’s winning graduate, Omar Ismail from Bangladesh said:
“I would never have been able to have made such an achievement in my training and career without the support I got from my Telford tutors who supported me and helped me to get my position at the Balmoral Hotel, Edinburgh. I thank them for the encouragement they gave me and their efforts at making me believe I could succeed.”
As the restaurant approaches into winter, there is an increase in the buzz of activity taking place at the restaurant, Tom MacGregor said:
“We are now busy preparing our Christmas menus and getting ready for the influx of Christmas bookings which come through – the restaurant seems to be getting increasingly more popular each year, I hope due to our growing reputation for providing an excellent dining experience combined with extremely reasonable prices. I think you would struggle to find a cheaper Christmas meal out in the city to such a high standard of delicious, meticulously prepared food, and the highest standard of service.”
