Course Overview

This course will prepare you for the role of Pharmacy Technician. A Pharmacy Technician is a qualified and registered member of the health care professional team and works alongside pharmacists in the course of medicine and pharmaceutical care provision.

Students studying pharmacy courses will be required to apply for a PVG and may be eligible in the future (after undertaking further studies) to register with the General Pharmaceutical Council. Read about these here and find out what you need to do.

Placement Information

All students are required to undertake a work placement of 2 days per week (subject to change). This provides useful practical experience in a pharmacy and will be beneficial to those seeking employment at the end of their studies.

Entry Requirements
-
  • For this level, of course, you are required to hold certification at SCQF level 5 or above (or equivalent) including English or Communication and a science. 
  • Applicants should hold qualifications or have experience that demonstrates their ability in basic research, basic report writing and writing basic compositions. 
  • For mature applicants, relevant work experience could demonstrate ability rather than qualifications. Please state any relevant experience in your personal statement.

All successful applicants will be invited along to an applicant day. Dates TBC.
For this level of course your workwear is funded through your bursary award (no requirement for you to pay). Workwear is required to be worn when in college pharmacy areas.
Progression And Articulation Routes
-
  • Further study - successful students from Edinburgh College will be considered for relevant and related Degree programmes at QMU (terms and conditions apply) – these programmes are Nutrition and Food Science and Nutrition and Podiatry.
  • Employment - Successful students can continue their studies at SVQ level 3 (This level of study has to be completed in a Pharmacy setting with a minimum of 14 hours per week) or gain employment in a Pharmacy at an appropriate level.
