Qualifications

The College offers a wide range of nationally-recognised courses, across a variety of subjects. Learners can study for qualifications offered by an extensive number of awarding bodies, including:

• C&G (City and Guilds)
• AAT (Association of Accounting Technicians)
• NEBDN (National Examining Board for Dental Nurses)
• REHIS (Royal Environmental Health Institute for Scotland)

• VTCT (Vocational Training Charitable Trust)

SQA National Qualifications (NQs)

National Qualifications (NQs) are one of the most important types of qualification in Scotland. Almost everyone leaving school or college today has one or more NQ.

National Units

National Units are the building blocks of National Courses and Group Awards. They are also qualifications in their own right.

National Courses

National Courses are usually made up of three National Units and an external assessment (which could be an exam or a piece of work that is assessed by examiners).

National Certificates
National Certificates are primarily aimed at 16-18 year olds and adults in full-time education. They prepare learners for more advanced study or employment.

These courses vary from College devised programmes of units, or recognised Awarding Body programmes of units resulting in an SQA ‘Group Award’
.
Skills for Work Courses
Skills for Work National Courses involve learners learning through practical activities. These courses are directly related to a particular vocational area.
 
National Progression Awards (NPAs)

NPAs are designed to develop and assess learners’ skills and knowledge in specialist vocational areas. They are linked to National Occupational Standards - the basis of Scottish Vocational Qualifications.

SQA Scottish Vocational Qualifications (SVQ)
 
You can study for an SVQ at any age and point in your career. SVQs have been designed to meet employers’ specific needs and are based on National Occupational Standards.

SQA Higher National Certificate and Higher National Diploma (HNC / HND)

HNCs and HNDs are specially designed to meet the needs of employers. They are offered in a huge range of subjects and are highly regarded by employers and universities.
 
SQA Professional Qualifications

Professional Development Awards (PDAs) are designed to give learners high level skills in a sharp, flexible and focused way.

City and Guilds Vocational Qualifications
 
Vocational qualifications are ideal for learners who want to improve their knowledge or skills in a particular area.
EDEXCEL
Edinburgh’s Telford College offers a broad range of Edexcel qualifications, many of which are designed offer a passport to Higher Education.
