How the charity is managed


The Development Trust is a Scottish charity (registered with OSCR SC044657) and a company limited by guarantee. It is managed by a board of trustees, all of whom are volunteers, who meet four times a year usually in August, November, February and May.

Meeting dates for this coming year are: 31st August 2017; 16th November 2017; 8th February 2018; 24th May 2018.

We work on an ongoing basis in close partnership with Edinburgh College, and the Edinburgh College Students Association. We also work on occasion in partnership with various trusts and foundations, and with companies, all of whom support the aims of the trust in supporting the brighter futures of students at Edinburgh College, as well as the advancement of education generally.

The Development Trust trustees are:

​​​​​​​Dr Allan Colquoun, chair: Allan is University Liaison and Emerging Technologies Manager at Leonardo. He is involved in many Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education initiatives from primary school through to college, university and professional institutes. 
Ian Young, trustee: Ian is the current Edinburgh College board vice-chair with considerable senior public service experience, together with ongoing working knowledge of a number of organisations with charitable status. 
​​​Jamie Andrew, trustee: Jamie is a Scottish mountaineer and a quadruple amputee. He is an author, speaker, experienced charity fundraiser and campaigner for equality and disability rights.
​​Elaine Lee, trustee: Elaine is an independent consultant specialising in business transformation, corporate strategy and colleague engagement within the financial services industry.  Over the last 25 years, Elaine has worked for leading financial institutions in London and Edinburgh, including Goldman Sachs, Aon, Royal Bank of Scotland and Lloyds Banking Group.  She also spent five years as an equity analyst with Martin Currie, making portfolio investment recommendations across the global consumer sector. She has an MBA from the University of Edinburgh Business School and is fluent in several languages including French and Russian.
Lt Col Douglas Mackay, trustee: Douglas is Commander of the Edinburgh Garrison for the Army.  He has seen a broad range of military service across the world including three operational tours in the Balkans, three in Afghanistan, and he worked at NATO headquarters in his last role.
Ann Landels, trustee: Ann is director of charity Crisis Skylight Edinburgh where she established the charity’s outreach services which deliver education, training and one-to-one support to homeless people in Edinburgh. Prior to this, she worked in local government in where latterly she was head of service for culture and learning at Aberdeen City Council. She is a member of the Edinburgh College board of management.
Patron: Our patron is Professor Richard Demarco CBE, artist and promoter of the visual and performing arts. He has been one of Scotland’s most influential advocates for contemporary art through his work at the Richard Demarco Gallery and the Demarco European Art Foundation, as well as co-founder of Edinburgh’s Traverse Theatre.  He is an artist-teacher of European Cultural Studies on primary, secondary and tertiary levels in innumerable schools, colleges and universities worldwide.

The Edinburgh College Development Trust employs a Development Trust Manager, Sheena Stone.
The Company Secretary is Andrew Carton.
