WEACT, Edinburgh College’s employability project, delivers tailored employability services and support to individuals looking to improve their employment situation.

With a variety of offices throughout Edinburgh, our friendly, knowledgeable and dedicated staff provide specialised support and have helped approximately 7,000 people into employment, education or training since 1999. Working closely with our delivery partners, we offer a range of bespoke services including:

All Age One to One Support

Registered clients are given a named Employability Advisor who will support and assist with:

• CV Preparation and Development
• Cover Letter Presentation
• Careers Guidance and Employment Advice 
• Local Job Vacancy Information
• Interview Coaching and Presentation Skills
• Employability Skills Training and Assessments
• Confidence Building and Motivation
• Information on Education Training and Volunteering
• I.T. support and Jobsearch Training
• Access to self-service areas (e.g. computing/printing facilities)

Just Do It

Our specialist young person’s service for 16-19 year olds provides both one to one support and employability focused courses. Our Just Do It course is a great way to build your knowledge and start to think about your next steps. It’s an informal and fun way to improve your chances of moving into something positive and gain employment, training or further qualifications.
Run over 5 weeks (3 days a week), it will give you a great set of new skills to help you:

• Get started on a new career path or college course
• Gain skills and confidence to handle new situation
• Find out what employers are looking for
• Learn how to job search and gain confidence in interview
• Find out what your interests are
• Work towards the SQA Steps to Work qualification
• Meet new people and have fun!
Work Club

Each week a dedicated Employability Advisor runs an informal voluntary attendance Work Club, where clients can share experiences and gain further development on:

• Motivation, Confidence Building and Goal Setting
• Teambuilding, sharing skills, supporting and enabling others 
• Internet jobsearching, web page navigation, e-mails and online form filling

Prince’s Trust

The Prince’s Trust Team Programme is a 12 week course which gives young people between 16-25 years old the opportunity and support to develop personal, social and employability skills. Students will also work towards gaining SQA certificates in Personal Development and Communications.

The programme includes:-

• 4 day team building residential 
• Undertake a project based in their local community
• 2 weeks work experience 
• Get help with CV writing and interview technique

Routes to Market

Routes to Market is an interactive 4 week programme aimed at people 16-19 years old who are looking for work. The course is run in a relaxed and supportive environment, and one to one support will be given throughout. This participant-led course involves:

• Using various IT tools to carry out intensive jobsearch, including work sector research 
• Use of Social Media for jobsearching
• Creating sector specific CV’s and cover letters, 
• Developing writing skills for successful application forms
• Developing interview techniques and telephone skills​
