Milton Road

At Milton Road we have purpose-built accommodation located on campus. This means students are right on the doorstep for getting to their classes. With great transport links to Edinburgh (six minutes by train) and beyond. It is also an ideal base for students studying at other campuses, such as Midlothian which is just over a ten-minute train ride from Brunstane station around the corner from Milton Road campus.

Our accommodation has 102 rooms available for students, living together and sharing facilities, helps to promote the communal atmosphere. The accommodation at Milton road offers a standard package which includes five evening meals per week during term times (self-catering options are not available). There are small shared pantries on all floors which students can utilise for preparing snacks, these come equipped with microwaves, kettles and toasters.

Students staying with on Milton Road Campus will find a wealth of activities nearby such as shopping, going to the cinema and dining out at Fort Kinnaird, which is a ten minute walk away. Portobello Beach is also on our doorstep offering various activities.

For those wanting to explore Scotland a little further, Edinburgh provides a great departure point to both the highlands and borders of Scotland. Brunstane station is part of the new Scottish Borders railway which means the countryside is just a quick walk and train journey away for students. Closer to home, East Lothian provides some great beaches and towns to explore.

COVID 19 UPDATE

Due to the current epidemic we have introduced some more measures to ensure your safety when staying with us.

Please note all these measures will be reviewed regularly and may change.

MeasureDetails
Flexible Tenancy start date

In order to accommodate those with courses starting later on campus than normally would be the case in the coming academic year we will issue your fixed term tenancy agreements with dates ranging up to 21st October 2020.

If you have not secured your place on a course and not moved into our accommodation, you will not incur a charge should you then decide not to take up your place in halls (28 day's notice must be given prior to your move in date).

Staggered Move In Dates

In order to reduce large numbers of people moving into our accommodation on any one day or time, you will be assigned specific dates and times to move in. Dependant on resident numbers these may be spaced out through the week rather than just our normal move in weekends.

Cleaning within our accommodation communal areas has increased

Our cleaning process has increased in line with current government guidance and as part of this guidance cleaning materials will be placed in key locations for students to self-clean communal areas they use. Residents must embrace this taking responsibility for self-cleaning in order to reduce risk.

Residents are responsible for self-cleaning their private rooms

We will no longer be cleaning rooms. We will provide clean bedding for the initial moving in date but this will have to be maintained by the residents themselves from then on. Hoovers will be available on each floor of the building so residents can access these easily to keep their rooms clean and tidy.

Accommodation Staff Safety
  • Our accommodation staff will be behind protective screens when talking with residents and have been provided with PPE for their and your protection.
Reduced Resident Population
  • During the initial stages of reopening, the accommodation at Milton road will operate with reduced numbers due to current government advice. This will help maintain social distancing.
  • Please note the accommodation at Milton Road does not offer en-suite rooms.
  • Showers and toilets will have a ratio of one student per four toilets or showers.
  • Please consider this when applying.

Safer Catering Measures

Due to the variance of on-campus facilities, evening meals may be provided as packed evening meals, rather than the traditional service and location in the food court.

New Visiting Procedure

  • Visitors will need to book prior to their visit and will currently only have access to the entrance foyer/guest area.
  • All visitors must fill in their details for track and trace.
  • No visitors will be allowed to stay overnight within the halls in the first stages of reopening.

Communal Space Occupancy Will Be Monitored
  • Communal Spaces and Lounges have been re-arranged so that social distancing can be maintained.
  • Guidance regarding numbers within spaces will be displayed at the entrance of each area.
