Bob Downie

Bob has been chief executive of The Royal Yacht Britannia Trust since its inception in May 1998. Under his tutelage, Britannia has become one of Scotland’s leading visitor attractions, and between 2005 and 2015 was officially Scotland’s best visitor attraction, with a national tourist board quality rating of 96%. Britannia was also Tripadvisor’s No.1 UK Attraction 2014/15, the first Scottish attraction to win this prestigious award. Britannia also hosts exclusive evening events and was a 2015 finalist for the Conde Nast Johansens Award for Excellence.

Prior to being asked to manage Britannia, Bob worked for Scottish Enterprise (SE) for 12 years, mainly in urban regeneration, although for his last four years at SE he was tourism manager and chaired major events such as Edinburgh’s Hogmanay and the Cutty Sark Tall Ships Race when it came to Edinburgh in 1995.

Originally from Oban, he studied in Glasgow and has a BA in Public Administration, and MSc in Urban Development.

He is also on the Board of Museums Galleries Scotland, the public body charged with developing Scotland’s museums and galleries.
