Junior College Launched
Scottish Apprenticeship week takes place between 21-25 May to raise awareness of the need to increase skills and protect the future of the Scottish construction industry. The event on Monday 21st will highlight the traditional skills and requirements needed to work in roofing and stonemasonry jobs. Members of the public will be able to watch these skills being delivered by apprentices in the courtyard of Edinburgh Castle. ...

The Edinburgh College’s Festival was kicked off in style last night as Telford hosted the first-ever Edinburgh College’s Festival Gala Dinner. Representatives from Edinburgh’s three Colleges were joined by guest of honour and Cabinet Secretary for Education and Lifelong Learning, Michael Russell and 130 esteemed guests from Education, Government, the Cultural Sector and beyond. Guests were treated to the phenomenal musical styling’s of the Stevenson College Big Band, before sitting down to a delicious four-course dinner, prepared and served by Catering and Hospitality learners from Edinburgh’s Telford and Jewel and Esk Colleges. Guests were also entertained between courses by poetry and cabaret performances presented by HNC Acting and Performance learners. ...

The first rugby sevens tournament on the new pitches at Marine Drive has taken place under the watchful eye of Gregor Townsend who was capped 82 times for Scotland. As an employer at Glasgow Warriors he looks for people who have a love for the game and a desire to improve “I love seeing people develop. I think it’s what motivates you as a coach and anything you can pass on for them to improve but also young players tend to be more of a sponge than certain older players, its good just being out here coaching.” ...

Edinburghs Telford College has launched its brand new Junior College which is a new approach to education for 16-19 years olds. Working with the support of the City of Edinburgh Council and Skills Development Scotland, the initiative offers 16-19 year olds a portfolio of courses that support the Curriculum for Excellence offering young people an alternative route to employment and supports the Scottish Governments pledge of a guaranteed place in education and training for all 16-19 year olds. ...
